A birthday is a special day in anyone’s life and a gift is always welcome, but what about giving expensive items? There are people who shy away from receiving gifts because they dont want people to feel obligated. And then there are those people who feel its their God given right to receive presents on their special day. It is common today to spend a little more on items than it was years ago. Expensive items are easier to come across in todays consumer-minded world.
Spending money on electronics or computer related products can be costly, and yet, people drop a few hundred on tech items for birthdays all the time. Is it because as a society we are more unselfish? People simply spend the way they spend on electronics because technology is advanced in our culture. Computers are smaller, thinner and a lot more powerful. The internet is reigning supreme in nearly every household. Televisions are so thin they can easily be hung on the wall. And of course music is electronically compact that we can stuff 1000 songs in our pants pocket if we wanted to. What does all this mean? It simply supports the fact that if someones birthday is coming up; buying them a tech item would be the trendy and safest way to say happy birthday.
Think about it in this scenario. A person shows up at their friends party with the newest electronic gadget and immediately his friend jumps for joy. Its not because his friend is simply happy to see him. Its due to the fact that his friend just gave him the hottest gadget on the market. A few hundred to spend on gifts may not fall into the expensive category for everyone, but Im sure many people will say that $300 is a little too much to part with. Whats expensive for some may not be expensive for others. The bottom line is if you can afford to treat your friend to that $1100 laptop, then by all means exercise your right to make your friend happy. A birthday only comes around once a year, and expensive gifts usually last a lot longer.
So when someone yells happy birthday to you. An expensive gift just may be in your immediate future. Remember, a party is fun but whats more exciting is reveling in the fact that you are the recipient of an expensive gift. A gift that you didnt have to buy. Don’t forget a birthday card.
