Homemade Pear Preserves and Lemon Poppyseed Muffins
A birthday gift of food is most welcome by most birthday celebrants. The gift can take several forms including a gift basket or tin of goodies. Purchase or make food items and package them in a gift or order something from a company that specializes in food gifts.
Tins and Packages
Bake up some favorite cookies or brownies and put them in a decorative tin. These particular gifts are good for sending through the mail as long as the food item is air tight. Wrap the food item with wax paper or plastic wrap and put the tin in a box to send mail it. Other suggestions to be placed in a protective tin are candy, candied nuts, and small cakes. Homemade bread is something you don’t get all the time. Bake a loaf of white, wheat or a quick bread and wrap it in colored plastic wrap topping it with a bow.
Mail Order Food Gifts
Many companies provide mail order for delicious delicacies you can’t get anywhere else. Send fruits, vegetables, cakes, jams and jellies, summer sausage and cheeses and even lobster or steaks through the many mail order companies. Look online for these vendors by searching under the type of food you wish to send and also see if local vendors, like bakeries, provide mail order as well.
Food Baskets
A basket is a fun and easy way to give a birthday gift of food. Give a tea or coffee basket with a teapot, tea infuser, coffee pot and a few mugs in with it. Send a popcorn basket to someone who loves to eat this treat and include flavored salt, a popcorn bowl, gourmet popcorn and a box of caramel corn. Send a pasta basket to someone who loves Italian food and include pasta, sauce, a spaghetti bowl, Italian bread and a wine to go with dinner. A breakfast basket is great for the early riser. Include pancake mix, syrup, scones, jams, jellies and honey. A wine and cheese basket will be appreciated by a wine connoisseur while a basket full of dried herbs is a great gift for a cook.
Other Food Gifts
Purchase a gift card from the celebrant’s favorite grocery store. A gift certificate to a favorite restaurant is always nice especially when it is somewhere the birthday person would not usually go or only go on a special occasion. Another good idea for someone that has a full time job is to give them a gift card to a favorite place where they get their lunch while they are at work. Kids that go to college will appreciate a gift card from the university food services or a fast food establishment on campus. Some universities have a food service that is all around campus and sells coffee, breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack items that the student would normally have to buy. A gift card would give them the ability to get food even if they didn’t have money on hand.
Food gifts are perfect for the person that has everything, or for that celebrant that you just don’t know what to get. Everyone needs to eat and the gift will never go unused.
